'Diversity calls for celebration, not confrontation: PM Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said there is need to strengthen, and not separate threads of unity and harmony. Addressing the Indian origin Tamil community in Sri Lanka, Mr Modi said India remembers their forefathers who undertook the journey of their life from India to then Ceylon. He said it is a matter of pride that many of them also speak Sinhala, one of the oldest-surviving classical languages in the world. He said national icon of India from later years, Puratchi Thalaivar MGR was born on that very soil, establishing a life-long connection. <br/><br/>He said he is aware the Sri Lankan government is taking active steps to improve their living conditions including a 5-year National Plan of Action. He said it has been decided to extend 1990 Emergency Ambulance Service, currently operating in Western and Southern Provinces, to all other Provinces.
