The Government today came under severe attack from political parties for removing Mizoram Governor Kamla Beniwal from her post. Congress today alleged that removal of Mizoram Governor Dr. Kamla Beniwal is a political vendetta against her as she had opposed the appointment of Lokayukta by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi. Briefing reporters in New Delhi, party spokesperson Shobha Oza dismissed the Government's claim that she has been sacked following the corruption charges against her. Oza questioned that if there was corruption charges against her, why was she transferred form Gujarat to Mizoram instead of dismissal.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament House, NCP chief Sharad Pawar said, it is political vendetta and most unfortunate act on the part of the government.
Justifying the action, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said there is no politics involved in the removal of Beniwal. He said, the action against Beniwal has been taken according to constitutional provisions and it is also not in violation of the Supreme Court judgement. Beniwal was yesterday sacked as Governor of Mizoram just two months before the end of her tenure. In her previous stint as Governor of Gujarat, she had differences on a number of issues with the then Narendra Modi government in the State. She is the second Governor to be sacked after the removal of Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Virendra Kataria.
