The Lok Sabha has taken up discussion on Apprentice (Amendment) Bill, 2014. Moving the bill, Labour and Employment Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that it will help increase the number of apprentices in the country. However, Mallikarjun Kharge of the Congress and Saugat Roy of the Trinamool Congress observed that there was no need to get the bill passed in a hurry. They suggested that the bill be referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee saying that trade unions and workers have some objections over clauses in the bill.Initiating the discussion K Suresh of the Congress alleged that there are no provisions in the bill for apprentices in the unorganised sector. Dushyant Singh of the BJP said that the bill will help increasing the demand for skilled labour in the industry as well as creating more job opportunities.
