In Nepal, the discharge of disqualified Maoist combatants from the UN monitored cantonments is set to begin from the 7th of this month. This was decided at a meeting of the supervisory committee overlooking the discharge and rehabilitation of the disqualified combatants held in Kathmandu on Monday. Talking to newsmen after the meeting, Nepal’s Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Rakam Chemjong said the discharged Maoist combatants would be given option to choose from a rehabilitation package that includes educational support and vocational training within a year of their discharge. He said they will not be recruited in any of the para-military wings of the Maoists.
