Meanwhile, BJP President Rajnath singh has dedicated the party's victory to the common people. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, he said that the clean image of Dr. Harsh Vardhan in Delhi and senior party leader Narendra Modi's influence must have impacted the
results in all four states.
The debutant Aam Aadmi Party registered a historic win, defeating several political heavyweights of ruling party and opposition. Its convener Arvind Kejriwal pulled off a major upset against three-time Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, defeating her with a thumping margin of over 25,864 votes in New Delhi constituency. Addressing media persons, Mr Kejriwal said, the Delhi results are historic and it is the victory of people and democracy.
Mr. Kejriwal said, his party will sit in opposition and play a constructive role instead of seeking support from any party to form the government. He said, he has no personal enmity with Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and it is a fight for upholding stands on several issues like corruption and price rise.
CPI(M) has said that the Assembly election results in four states are a reflection of widespread anger against the policies of Congress.
Senior party leader Sitraram Yechury said that BJP has gained the benefit of the people's negative vote against Congress. He said, wherever people had alternative to BJP and Congress, they voted in favour of those parties. Mr. Yechury said, those who are projecting these results at the national level, must remember that these states put together, send only 73 MPs in the Lok Sabha.
