Direct tax collections to surge 25 per cent

Allaying fears of sluggish economic growth impacting tax collections, the chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes, Prakash Chandra on Thursday exuded confidence that the revenue targets for 2011-12 will be achieved. Chandra told reporters in New Delhi that the present indications are that direct tax revenue collections are growing at over 23 per cent. The Centre expects to collect over 9.3 lakh crore rupees in tax revenues this fiscal, almost 25 per cent up from the previous year.
