Direct access to Headley: India hails US move

The government says the American assurance regarding direct access to Lashkar-e-Taibe operative by Indian investigators, is a significant achievement. Speaking to media in New Delhi, Home Secretary Mr GK Pillai said that this should put to rest all doubts expressed in this regard by certain quarters. <br/><br/>In reply to a question on how soon the Indian investigators will get the access to Headley, Pillai said that he will be able to give further details after discussion with the team led by the Solicitor General on their return from the US. <br/><br/>The team visited the US to discuss modalities with American authorities in gaining access to Headley after US President Barrack Obama's assurance to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in this regard during their meeting in Washington.<br/>During the meeting between Mr. Subramanium and the US Attorney General Eric Holder, the two sides agreed to take suitable steps to bring about direct access to Headley by the Indian authorities as soon as possible. Headley has confessed to his role in 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.<br/>
