The British Foreign Secretary William Hague is calling on more countries to contribute to the international coalition that has been carrying out air strikes on Libya. He is co-chairing a meeting in Qatar of the Contact Group of Nations that oppose Col. Gaddafi. Speaking before hand, he said there was a scope for broader involvement. Mr. Hague said diplomacy and sanctions would be used to increase the pressure on Col. Gaddafi to go. Italy has suggested arming the Libyan rebels to help them defy attacks by pro-Gaddafi forces. But Belgium said such a move would not be covered by the United Nations resolution under which the International military action is being carried out.
