Dipika Pallikal today missed by a whisker in becoming the first squash player of Indian origin to bag a shot at a Gold Series title. In the semifinals of the Women's Australian Open Squash Championships at Canberra, Dipika fought gallantly but lost to Laura Massaro of England 7-11, 11-7, 11-13, 11-3, 9-11.Dipika had become the first Indian to enter the semifinals of a Gold Series event when she defeated Amanda Sobhy of the United States 11-5, 11-7, 12-10 in the quarters. With this defeat, India's campaign in the tournament has come to an end.Earlier, in the Men's section, Siddharth Suchde had bowed out of the tournament after he lost in the opening round to Alan Clyne of Scotland 7-11, 5-11, 8-11.
