Dimple Yadav elected unopposed from Kannauj Lok Sabha seat

In Uttar Pradesh, ruling Samajwadi Party nominee Mrs. Dimple Yadav today declared elected unopposed for the Lok Sabha in Kannauj Lok Sabha seat by-election. District Returning Officer Ms. Selva Kumari J formally declared her elected at the end of date for withdrawal for nominations. Wife of the Chief Minister of the state Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple was the only candidate left in the fray. Two independents candidates Dashrath Sankhwar and Sanjeev alias Sanju Katiyar both had withdrawn their nominations from the contest.

AIR Allahabad correspondent reports that the by elections for this seat has been necessitated after resignation of Akhilesh Yadav, chief Minister of the state, from the house. He had resigned from the membership of Lok Sabha after being elected to the Upper house of State Legislature. All major political parties of the state including main opposition Bahujan Samaj Party , Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress and left parties had not fielded their candidates for the by elections.

AIR correspondent reports that Dimple Yadav is the second one in the state elected unopposed to the lower house of the Parliament.
