Dilip Walse Patil elected speaker of Maharshtra Assembly

In Maharshtra, Mr. Dilip Walse Patil from the NCP was today elected as the speaker of the 12th Legislative Assembly. His opponent Mr. Girish Bapat of the BJP withdrew his nomination following which, Mr. Dilip Patil, the former finance Minister was elected unopposed. Senior BJP leader Eknath Khadse was elected Leader of Opposition unanimously.<br/><br/> Members of MNS and Shiv Sena-BJP created noisy scene in the Assembly today, demanding the arrest of SP MLA Abu Asim Azmi over his behaviour on the opening day of the session and his subsequent remarks against Sena chief Bal Thackeray. Soon after the House commenced proceedings, MNS members shouted slogans demanding Azmi's arrest. Sena-BJP members also joined in, demanding Azmi's arrest for his derogatory comments against Bal Thackeray.<br/><br/> The House was adjourned for 10 minutes amid noisy scenes.
