Chief Information Commissioner Radha Krishna Mathur today said, digitization of land records will bring clarity in land holdings and help reduce criminal cases.<br/><br/>Addressing a Central Information Commission's seminar on Land Records and Right to Information Act 2005 in New Delhi, Mr Mathur said, land issues are at the heart of administrative India and majority of crimes in the society are related to land disputes. He said almost half of the RTI queries received by the State Information Commissions are related to land records. <br/><br/>The Chief Information Commissioner said digitization of the records will also lessen the burden of pending court cases. On the occasion, Information Commissioner Prof M. Sridhar Acharyulu informed 66 per cent court cases in the country are related to land disputes costing a whopping 58 thousand crore rupees in litigation. He said digitization can help accelerate Indian GDP by 1.3 per cent.
