External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today assured Lok Sabha that dialogue with Pakistan will continue uninterruptedly. The assurance came after one Member expressed apprehension that there have been several flip flops in talks with the neighbouring country during the last few months. <br/><br/>During half an hour discussion on her statement on her recent visit to Islamabad to attend Heart of Asia conference the Minister said, dialogue is the only way forward hoping that anti-dialogue elements will not be able to provoke and affect the dialogue process. Mrs. Swaraj said it was decided in Islamabad during her recent visit to upgrade bilateral talks to National Security Advisor level. Underlining the importance of talks with Pakistan, the External Affairs Minister said it will help establish peace in the entire region. <br/><br/>Mrs Swaraj also pointed out that deadlock in Indo-Pak talks has adversely affected the progress of SAARC as compared to other regional groupings. Noting that talks with Pakistan being re-started on the basis of trust, the Minister said, there is a need to bridge the gulf in relations with Pakistan. <br/><br/>The Minister categorically stated that there is no involvement of any third party in talks held at Bangkok, Ufa in Russia and Paris. Mrs Swaraj said, expansion of list of trade items through Wagah and Muzzafarabad routes is on agenda of the talks between New Delhi and Islamabad. The Minister also informed that religious tourism which was not part of previous Composite Dialogue process, has now been included in the new Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue process. <br/><br/>Earlier, the Minister making a statement in the Lok Sabha said, the Government is committed to build an environment of peaceful and cooperative relations with all its neighbours, including Pakistan. She said, the new Dialogue with Pakistan has twin aims of removing hurdles in the path of a constructive engagement by addressing issues of concern, and exploring and establishing cooperative ties. <br/><br/>She informed that initiatives on trade and connectivity, people-to-people exchanges and humanitarian issues will contribute to welfare of the entire region, and promote better understanding and mutual trust.<br/>In the morning, in a similar statement in the Rajya Sabha, Sushma Swaraj hoped that re-engaging with Pakistan under a 'Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue' will mark beginning of peace and development as continued estrangement was a hurdle to peace and prosperity in the region. <br/><br/>She said the Foreign Secretaries of both the countries have been tasked to work out modalities and schedule of the meetings under the new dialogue. She said, the government will take all steps, including through diplomatic channels to meet any security threat. <br/><br/>Mrs Swaraj said, India and Pakistan condemned terrorism and resolved to cooperate to eliminate this menace. She said, there was also a sharp awareness that principal obstacles to the growth of ties, especially terrorism, would have to be clearly and directly addressed. <br/><br/>She said, New Delhi also dwelt on the need for Islamabad to expedite the Mumbai terrorist attacks trail. The Minister said, the Indian side was assured of the steps being taken to expedite its early conclusion.
