Dhoni fined 20% match fee for slow over-rate in WC final

India team has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate against Sri Lanka during the Cricket World Cup final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai yesterday. Jeff Crowe of the Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees imposed the fines after Mahendra Singh Dhoni's side was ruled to be one over short of its target at the end of the match, when time allowances were taken into consideration. While Dhoni was fined 20 per cent of his match fee, his players received 10-per-cent fines. In accordance with ICC Code of Conduct regulations governing minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount. The offence is contrary to Article 2.5.1 of the code which relates to minor over-rate offences. The penalty was accepted by India without contest so there was no need for a hearing.
