Dhanteras being celebrated with traditional fervour

The festival of Dhanteras was celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety across the country on Monday. Sale of copper utensils and gold and silver ornaments witnessed a huge spurt on this special occasion.

Elaborate security arrangements are in place in the national capital to manage the huge rush of people. Police is keeping a strict vigil at all crowded places to prevent any untoward incident.

AIR Correspondent has filed this report, with Dhanteras, Diwali celeberations have kicked off as the city wears a festive look with shops, houses and streets decorated in different hues of color. People are thronging the markets doing their last minute shopping for the big day.

Today was a particularly crowded day and long traffic jams did not dampen the spirit of celebration. Those selling firecrackers however seem to be a little disappointed as growing awareness about global warming and climate change is keeping people away from buying fireworks this time around.

This Diwali, hopefully Delhi will witness less noise and pollution.
