The Bombay High Court today directed the city police to file a report by the 6th of next month on the progress of investigations into the murder of senior journalist Jyotirmoy Dey. The direction was issued by Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice R V More after they perused a confidential report and relevant files submitted by the police concerning the killing of Dey by unidentified assailants in suburban Powai on the 11th of this month.The Court had allowed Mumbai Press Club and Marathi Patrakar Parishad, who are also seeking transfer of probe to CBI, to intervene and file affidavits, if required.Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today ruled out handing over the investigations into the murder of veteran journalist J Dey to CBI, stating that Mumbai police were working round-the-clock on this case and they will crack it soon. He, however, said that if the High Court orders the government to give the case to CBI, the government would do so to honour the court verdict. Chavan stated this while speaking to a group of editors from print and electronic media who called on him this afternoon. He also said that if police personnel were found to be involved in the J Dey murder case, nobody will be spared and stringent action will be taken against them.
