Devendro storms into World Olympics Qualifying quarters; Manoj in last-16

Commonwealth Games silver-medallist L Devendro Singh of India has stormed into the quarterfinal of International Boxing Association's World Olympic Qualification tournament at Baku, Azerbaijan. Fourth seed Devendro defeated Argentina's Leandro Blanc 3-0 in the 49 kilogram category. Devendro, also an Asian silver-medallist, will be up against South Africa's Sibusiso Bandla today. Another Indian pugilist, Manoj Kumar entered the last-16 stage of the Tournament defeating second seed Mohamed Eslam Ahmed Aly of Egypt in the 64 kilogram category with a dominant 3-0 show. Devendro has to make the final to book himself a berth in the Olympic Games. Manoj, on the other hand, will take on Bulgaria's Ayrin Smetov Ismetov in his pre-quarterfinal bout today. Manoj, also a former Asian bronze-medallist, will be assured of an Olympic spot if he makes the semifinals of the ongoing event.
