Making an appeal to everyone to plant a tree, Mr. Fadnavis said it is high time that people wake up to the huge environmental crisis and take effective measures so that future generations survive and lead a healthy life. He also talked about shifting to green transport to curb pollution and the need for an app to measure an individual's carbon footprint and methods to reduce the same.
''
'' Of the 33 crore target for 2019, state Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said that the government has adopted the Japanese 'Miyawaki' pattern of plantation to increase forest cover. Named after Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, the pattern ensures saplings grow ten times faster and the forest is thirty times more dense. He said the technique has already been implemented in Jalna, Aurangabad, Hingoli, Beed, Latur, Pune and Jalgaon districts.
