Development protects ecosystem: PM

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has said that the ecosystem could best be protected by harmonising development and conservation concerns. In his message on the Wildlife Week being celebrated in the country, he made clear that development and conservation cannot be at the cost of each other. Dr. Singh maintained that it is necessary that all the countrymen recognise this and co-operate towards conserving the irreplaceable wildlife. Our correspondent reports, prime minister's observations hold importance in view of ongoing fight between environmentalists and pro-development lobby with both accusing each other of ignoring the national interest.
