Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu today said that the development of railways, since its inception, has been not been at the pace considering the increase of population. The union Minister said there is a need to build new lines to cater to the increasing demand considering which the railways has entered into joint venture with 16 states including Maharashtra. The joint venture also includes building of elevated corridors the work for which would begin in a year. Prabhu was speaking in Mumbai today at a program for dedicating to the nation the DC- AC conversion of Harbour and Trans Harbour line and 12 car Service on the harbor line. The railway minister said, currently on an average tracks are being laid at a pace of 4 kms per day which would go up to the extent of 19 kms a day.<br/><br/>Speaking about Mumbai's local train Prabhu said the railways along with the state government have made an elaborate roadmap to develop 48 local stations in Mumbai. He said there is also a plan to allot a dedicated 5th and 6th lines for long distance trains which would definitely help in easing the traffic in the Central Railway. <br/> <br/>Citing example of Nirankari Baba, Prabhu said various NGOs have also come up to help the railways in its reformatory work. He said the volunteers of Nirankari Baba would work for cleanliness of 100 stations every month.
