GOC-IN-C Northern Command Lt. Gen. B.S Jaswal says the situation in Jammu & Kashmir state has improved remarkably but militants numbering 600 to 700 are still active there. He said, a number of militants are still waiting across the border to infiltrate. Addressing media persons at the Northern Command Headquarters, Udhampur in Jammu & Kashmir today, the Northern Command Chief said that the paramilitary forces have played a great role in bringing normalcy in the state and the success has been achieved with the full cooperation of the people of the state. He said the day is not far away when the militancy will be completely uprooted from the state. However, he warned against an emerging new type of terrorism – agitation by the anti-social and anti-national elements from within the state. He was hopeful that the peace loving people of the state will shun it.<br/><br/>AIR Correspondent, R.K Raina reports that Lt. Gen. Jaswal also ruled out any threat from the Taliban militants and stated that they cannot succeed in their ill designs unless they are helped by Pakistan. He said the Indian Army is always ready to meet any challenge from within or outside the country. Assuring that the Human Rights violations by Army will not be tolerated in any condition, he said that there had been reports of 1510 cases of Human Rights Violations in the state till now, of which only 35 have been confirmed and the investigation on seven such cases is still going on. He also said that against 667 incidents of violence during 2006, the number has drastically come down to that of 36 this year.
