Despite Gurdaspur attack, India-Pakistan to light candles near Wagah border

Despite recent terror attack in Punjab's Gurdaspur district by Pakistan based terrorists and continuous ceasefire violations in Jammu and Kashmir, Peaceniks on both sides of the India-Pakistan border will carry on with their two decades old tradition of lighting candles near Attari-Wagah border at midnight tonight. However, the cultural evening and the scheduled seminar on 'Challenges of Terrorism and Role of South Asian Countries' will be held at Amritsar without any participation from across the border.

Hind-Pak Dosti Manch General Secretary Satnam Manak told our AIR correspondent that no delegation from both the sides is participating in each other's programme as they have not got visas to visit each other's countries. The peace lovers will light candles on either side of the border as a symbol of solidarity with each other.

In an effort to maintain peace, Hind-Pak Dosti Manch, Folklore Research Academy and South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA) annually celebrates Independence Days of both the partitioned nations by organising functions and lighting candles on both sides of the border at Amritsar and Lahore.
