Depression likely to cross Orissa coast near Gopalpur

In Orissa, three fishermen are missing from the Paradip port area in Jagatsinghapur district in the wake of a depression in the Bay of Bengal. AIR Bhubaneswar correspondent reports that the depression is likely to intensify and will cross the Orissa coast near Gopalpur on Friday evening.Heavy to moderate rain with a wind speed of 35 to 55 kilometers per hour is continuing in the coastal districts of Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore since Thursday. This has dampened the spirit of Durga Puja celebrations in these areas.The state government has issued a high alert on Thursday in all the six coastal districts and fishermen were asked not to venture into the sea.The depression, which lay centred at about 430 km south-east of Gopalpur on Thursday, was likely to intensify into a deep depression and move in a north, north-westward direction.Bhubaneswar met office director S Sahu said, the system is likely to make landfall between Goplpur and Paradip on Friday. Rain and thundershower would occur at most places over coastal Orissa and a few places in the interior areas.
