Deployment of army in WB is routine exercise: Army

Army said they are conducting routine exercise with full knowledge and coordination with West Bengal police. A statement by the Eastern command said dismissed the speculation of army taking over toll plaza as incorrect.<br/><br/>It said it is a routine exercise in all North Eastern states. The ongoing exercise involves collection of vehicular data at 18 places in Assam, 13 in Arunanchal Pradesh , 19 in West Bengal , 6 in Manipur , 5 each in Nagaland and Meghalaya and one in Tripura and Mizoram.<br/><br/>Earlier, a defence spokesperson said that the Army conducts biennial exercise throughout the country with the aim of getting statistical data about the load carriers that could be made available to the army in case of a contingency. Wing Commander SS Birdi said, there is nothing alarming about this and it is carried out as per government orders. The issue of reported deployment of army at toll plazas in west bengal was raised by Trinamool Congress in parliament today.
