In Tamil Nadu, the Department of Land Registration has rolled out an ambitious project to prevent fraudulent practices by implementing the web camera and biometric system in 250 Sub Registrar Offices in the State. Launching the scheme as part of the e-Governance initiative in Chennai today, the State Registration Minister, Mr. Suresh Rajan said, the project will be implemented in 250 of the 574 sub registrar offices in the state in the first phase. He said, under the scheme, persons who register properties will be photographed and their fingerprints documented through biometric methods. The Minister said, this would wipe out incidents of fake documents and will help digitise the entire land registration process.
