The Petroleum Minister Mr. Murli Deora is scheduled to meet the Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee later in the day to discuss under recoveries on the sale of petroleum products. The under recoveries are expected to touch over 45 thousand crore rupees this fiscal. The Petroleum Minister Mr. Murli Deora told reporters that the government will decide freeing petrol and diesel prices after Kirit Parikh Committee submits its report. Mr. Deora said that the government is conscious of the effect of any increase in the prices of petroleum products. He however said that there is an urgent need to find a permanent solution to the recurring problem of under recoveries. The Finance Ministry recently released 12 thousand crore rupees to address the growing concern of under recoveries of oil marketing companies. AIR correspondent reports that the Petroleum Ministry wants atleast nine thousand crore rupees more from the Finance Ministry to address the issue of under recoveries as per an arrangement reached with the Finance Ministry earlier. Official sources that the administered pricing mechanism of Petroleum products will be in place within weeks as a Cabinet note has already been circulated among the concerned ministries.
