Deora rules out immediate hike in petrol prices

The government has ruled out any hike in petroleum prices for now. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi today, the Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mr. Murli Deora said that the government is not considering increase in the prices in the wake of there prices rising in the international markets. He said that the situation on this issue will be reviewed within 15 days. Earlier, Mr. Deora presented Oil Industry Safety Awards to 19 Oil companies for adopting best safety practices for saving valuable life of oil men as well as crucial infrastructure. Giving away the awards, Mr. Deora said that in view of the possibility of accidents of high severity in oil industries, there is an urgent need to meticulously assess the effectiveness of existing safety system so that measures could be taken to enhance safety levels. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mr. Jitin Prasad said that huge investments are being made in this sector and the government has accorded top priority to the safety and security of Oil industries.
