Deora evolving a consensus on implementing Parikh Committee recommendations

The Petroleum Minister Mr. Murli Deora is busy in evolving a consensus on implementing Parikh Committee recommendations on freeing the oil prices from government control. Mr. Deora held consultations with UPA's partners on the issue. The petroleum ministry is also in favour of marginally increasing kerosene and LPG rates. AIR correspondent reports that some UPA allies are believed to have expressed their reservation on the price hike.The Kirit Parikh Committee had also suggested an increase of Rs 6 a liter in kerosene rates and a 100 rupees per cylinder increase in LPG prices. The petroleum ministry and the oil marketing companies maintain that it is essential to reduce the huge under-recoveries of public sector oil companies. The under-recoveries are expected to the tune of over 46 thousand crore rupees by the end of current fiscal.
