Oil Minister Murli Deora on Wednesday demanded abolition of customs duty on crude oil and cut in excise duty on diesel to avoid more fuel price hikes that have become necessary because of spiraling global oil rates.Speaking on the side lines of function in New Delhi he told reporters that the ministry is seeking rollback of 5 per cent customs duty and also, one rupee per litre increase in excise duty on petrol and diesel.Deora said he had on 8th of January, met the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee to seek immediate release of 10,000 crore rupees as interim compensation to state oil companies.AIR correspondent reports that Finance Ministry has sanctioned 13,000 crore rupees to cover part of under-recoveries in first half of the current fiscal.
