Dense fog hit normal life in parts of north India today leading to three train accidents killing ten people and injuring 39, fifteen of them seriously. Air and rail traffic were dirupted and northern grid tripped causing power brekdown in the wee hours, before the fog conditions lifted by noon.<br/><br/>All the 3 accidents happened in Uttar Pradesh involving 5 passenger trains.Three women and the Guard of Allahabad-bound Prayagraj Express were among the 10 dead, when the Bhiwani-Gorakhpur Gorakhdham Express rammed into it at Panki railway station, about 25 kilometers from Kanpur.<br/><br/>Though fog appeared to be the reason behind the mishap, an inquiry has been ordered to go into the exact reason behind the accident. In another accident, the Delhi-bound Licchavi Express rammed into the stationary Magadh Express at Sarai Bhopat near Etawah at around Eight this morning. The driver of the Licchavi Express was seriously injured.<br/><br/>In the third accident, Faizabad-bound Saryu Express crashed with a tractor trolley near Vishwanathganj Railway Station at an unmanned level-crossing. The engine of the train got partly damaged in the accident. No casualty was reported so far from there. Rail Traffic movement has complety stopped at The Delhi-Howarah route and relief and rescue operation is on.<br/><br/>Railways have announced ex gratia of Five Lakh rupees for those who killed in the accident and one lakh rupees for those with serious injuries. All the morning flights have been delayed by over two-three hours causing inconvenience to passengers. Nearly 60 domestic flights and 13 international flights were diverted as runway visibility at the IGI airport dipped to 100 metres due to heavy fog.<br/><br/>A glitch in the cables connected to the instrument that provides realtime runway visibility data to the Air Traffic Control tower, forced the officials to suspend the flight operations. Speaking to AIR, airport MeT department in charge, R K Jenamai said no flights could off or land since 2 am. The flights were resumed in the afternoon.<br/><br/>Several parts of north India also faced power cuts in the wee hours with about 35 lines of Northern Grid tripped around 3.02 am. Power break downs hit areas in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. Areas like Rithala, Shalimar Bagh and many localities in North Delhi plunged into darkness in the wee hours due to the<br/>problem. <br/><br/>In Rajasthan, hill station Mount Abu was the coldest place with 4 degree Celsius. Cold wave situation is continuing at Sri Ganganagar and Churu with 5 and 6 degree Celsius temp. Jaipur is comparatively better.<br/><br/>Met official B.P.Yadav says plains of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are experiencing dense fog conditions for the last two days. Today the fog was very dense and visibility was below 15 meters in the morning. Coudy weather and rain is likely over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan tomorow.
