Dense fog engulfs parts of North India; Air, rail and road traffic affected

Dense fog engulfed several parts of North India this morning. Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and the Delhi-NCR region experienced a thick blanket of fog which disrupted air, road and rail services. Visibility was reportedly reduced to 50 to 200 metres at different places.<br/><br/>In the national capital, around 26 flights were delayed or diverted at the Indira Gandhi International Airport while three were cancelled. Sixty trains, including Sealdah, Howrah, Jammu and Bhubaneswar Rajdhanis, were running behind schedule by about two to four hours due to the fog.<br/><br/>In Uttar Pradesh, poor visibility caused accidents in various parts. At least five people were killed and several others injured in different accidents. Air services from Lucknow and Varanasi were paralysed, with a number of trains in the state running late.<br/><br/>Hisar and its surrounding areas in Haryana were also engulfed in thick fog. Traffic movement on the National Highway which runs through Punjab and Haryana, connecting Amritsar with Delhi, was also affected.
