Dense fog disrupts flight; rail traffic in northern India, cold related death toll rises

Dense fog affected the rail and flight services in the national capital on Thursday. The visibility at the Indira Gandhi International Airport was reduced to less than 50 meters and disrupted the flights. Even as the minimum temperature recorded a slight increase. <br/> <br/>Railway has cancelled the Bhopal Shatabadi Express and re-scheduled eight trains due to dense fog on Thursday morning.<br/> <br/>AIR correspondent reports, a Northern Railways spokesperson said four other trains have been rescheduled. These are Puri Express, Lucknow Shatabdi Express, North East Express and the Goa Express. <br/> <br/>Around 50 Delhi-bound trains, including the Patna Rajdhani Express, were running several hours behind schedule. The railways had on Wednesday announced cancellation of 19 trains till January 31 in view of the foggy weather. <br/> <br/>In eastern UP, the inclement weather continues to disrupt normal life as there is no improvement in foggy conditions. The day’s temperature in most of the eastern districts hovered between 14 degrees and 10 degrees Celsius.Eight more deaths have occurred in Sant Kabir Nagar, Barabanki, Gonda and Jaunpur. <br/> <br/>The long distance trains are running six to twenty four hours’ late due to dense fog. The Sun briefly appeared yesterday but there was no respite from bone chilling cold.<br/> <br/>In Madhya Pradesh, spine chilling cold conditions continued to prevail in the most parts of the state. Rewa recorded the lowest temperature at 3 degrees Celsius. <br/> <br/>In Bihar, seven more cold related deaths occurred taking the toll in the state to 21.<br/> <br/>Dense fog affected rail, road and air traffic in the region. Visibility was considerably reduced in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and the National capital Delhi. <br/> <br/>Cold wave has spread its wings to North Eastern part of the country also. Across the region fog and mist in the mornings has reduced visibility to a few metres. <br/> <br/>Manipur is in the grip of a severe cold wave and the temperatures are likely to go down in the coming days. The coldest recorded temperature this winter is in Imphal, the capital of Manipur with the mercury touching 2.4 degrees Celsius.<br/> <br/>The usually frost-bitten Shillong, capital of Meghalaya state had a minimum temperature of 3.6 degrees Celsius on January 1. <br/> <br/>In Tripura, cold winds have pushed down temperatures in the state. A cold spell is also sweeping through Mizoram and Barak Valley of Assam. <br/> <br/>In Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, too, severe cold has forced people indoors for most part of the day.<br/>
