Fog in parts of north India affected movement of trains on Wednesday even as cold wave conditions further eased with rise in maximum temperature. 14 more cold-related deaths were reported on Wednesday taking the toll to 171 this winter. Seven persons, including a woman and a two-month-old child, died in Allahabad district and as many more deaths were reported from Bihar, where the toll reached 21. Normal life was affected in most parts of Punjab and Haryana as fog reduced the visibility considerably. Amritsar recorded a low of 3.4 degrees Celsius, 3 degrees below normal, while Ambala recorded a low of 3.3 degree Celsius. Agriculture experts said the cold condition in north India is good for Rabi wheat crop.<br/><br/>People in the national capital woke up to a foggy morning with the minimum temperature plummeting to 5.6 degree Celsius due to icy winds blowing from the Himalayas which may lead to colder days ahead. While air operations were normal at the Indira Gandhi International airport here, fog disrupted movement of trains with two of them being cancelled and over two dozen others running behind schedule.<br/><br/>Mercury rose in Kashmir giving people some respite even as Ladakh and Jammu regions continued to reel under severe cold. Leh and Kargil districts of frontier region of Ladakh recorded the coldest night of the season with mercury dipped to minus 19.2 degree Celsius in Kargil and minus 19 degree Celsius in Leh. On the other hand, most places in the lower areas of Himachal Pradesh enjoyed a warmer day though the higher reaches of the state continued to reel under sub-zero temperature. In Uttarakhand, the authorities ordered closure of schools till January 15 because of severe cold and foggy conditions. Parts of Rajasthan continued to reel under intense cold with Mount Abu being the coldest place in the state with a low of minus one degree Celsius.<br/><br/><br/>Cold wave conditions in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh are continuing unabted. The lowest minimum temperature recorded in Punjab is in Amritsar where people are shivering at 1.0 degree Celsius, which is minus 3 degree celsius below normal.<br/><br/>Ludhiana and Patiala which saw mercury settling at 7.8 degree and 8 degree celcius, respectively, on Tuesday has recorded the minimum temperature at 6.3 degree and 5.8 degree celcius, on Wednesday making both the cities colder.<br/><br/>Ambala becomes the coldest city in Haryana. It has recorded 3.3 degree celcius, today.<br/><br/>The city beautiful, Chandigarh witnessed a minimum of 3.4 degree celcius, minus 3 degree celcius below normal.The Chandigarh Met Dept has predicted partly cloudy sky in the region with fog and mist at night and mornings for some more days.
