Demonetisation decision taken to eradicate corruption & black money: Naidu

Union Minister for Urban Development and Information Broadcasting M. Venkaiah Naidu said that country is migrating from one phase to another and this transitional period necessitates drastic decisions which might be adventurist in nature to be implemented for good governance. He emphasised that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision on demonetisation of higher value currency notes was taken with the sole purpose of eradicating corruption and black money in the country.<br/><br/>Addressing the 20th Edition of the National Conference for e-Governance which began in Visakhapatnam today, the Union Minister said the riches in the country are locked up with a countable few and there is a need to make tax evaders to fall in line so that the fruits of the development percolate to the poor.<br/><br/>Mr. Venakaiah Naidu also said more reforms are in the offing in the coming days. Mr. Venkaiah Naidu said the Centre will soon look into the issue relating to Benami properties. The Union Minister pointed that nobody in the government has ever said that the country is glowing and is marching forward but only the rating statistics are proving this. With the Centre's demonetization move, Mr. Naidu said, banks in the country are getting more money which is leading to reduction in interest rates benefitting the people. He reiterated that to promote transparency every citizen must have a bank account.<br/><br/>Mr. Venkaiah Naidu maintained that with information technology; governance with transparency is possible. He also noted that there are several choices for the country to grow economically stronger by utilising the abundant resources in a better way.<br/><br/>The conference was inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu which was also attended by Union Ministers Jitendra Singh, Sujana Chaudhary. The Chief Minister said there is a need for newer inventions giving an innovative thought on agriculture. Mr. Chandrababu Naidu emphasized on the use of technology more for better and faster results. He said if rural India gets transformed with development visible everywhere then only the country can be said to be progressing.<br/><br/>Built on the premise of "Minimum Government, Maximum Governance", the conference is an opportunity for the public and private sector to discuss best practices and explore new areas of partnership which are related to e-governance by leveraging various technology initiatives.<br/><br/>The National Conference for e-Governance with the theme 'Internet of Things and e-Governance' and will be covering newly evolving areas of e-Governance across five plenary sessions. Aligned with the Digital India programme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the National Conference on e-Governance is the largest annual event in the arena of Governance reforms in the country.<br/><br/>The conference is expected to serve as an ideal platform for Andhra Pradesh to showcase its leadership position in e-Governance and to share its learning on leveraging Internet of Things while delivering services to citizens and businesses.
