Democratic Republic of Congo: 27 killed, 54 missing in overcrowded boat sank

At least 27 people have died and 54 are missing after an overcrowded boat sank in the river Kasai in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A local administrator Jacques Mbila said today that most of the victims of the tragedy on the Kasai river were students on holiday. <br/><br/>According to the official, the accident happened overnight Thursday to Friday on the river Congo in the Idiofa area in the southwest of the country. Boats frequently capsize in Democratic Republic of Congo due to overcrowding, lack of safety measures and inexperienced helmsmen.<br/>
