Democratic institutions should be used constructively to deliberate, discuss & appreciate different opinions in vibrant democracy: LS Speaker Om Birla

<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #222222;">Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla has stressed that while difference of opinion is an integral part of democracy, Parliament and legislative assemblies should not become centres of disruption and accusations. He said that these democratic institutions should be used constructively to deliberate, discuss and appreciate the different opinions in a vibrant democracy.</span></p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><br />''</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #222222;">Mr Birla was addressing a press conference following the conclusion of the 19th Annual Zone III Conference of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), India Region, at the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, in Gangtok on Friday.</span></p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><br />''</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #222222;">Speaking about the issues of deliberation in the conference, Mr Birla said that the outcomes and suggestions will pave the way for addressing the challenges of drug abuse and cyber bullying; and for enhancing citizens' access to Parliament and legislatures across the country.</span></p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><br />''</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #222222;">Mr Birla informed that IT is being used to integrate legislative processes from the states on to one platform, making it accessible to the youth. To encourage public participation in legislative processes, Mr Birla suggested ideas and programmes for the youth such as 'Know your Constitution' and gathering feedback from citizens on various policies, legislations and programmes. He highlighted the role of public representatives and all democratic institutions in creating mass awareness on cyber bullying.</span></p>
