The Congress has asked the opposition parties to justify whether the demands of the civil society activists are in accordance with democratic procedures. It also asked whether the opposition would agree with the civil society version on Lok Pal bill. Answering a volley of questions at a press conference in New Delhi today, Party Spokesman Mr Abhishek Manu Singhvi asserted that it is only the UPA government which had initiated several measures to deal with corruption for the last two years. He said the measures included signing of 50 bilateral treaties with foreign countries to unearth black money.Mr Singhvi said, his government is the first to rope in the civil society in the drafting of the Lok Pal bill, which is now before a Parliamentary Standing Committee. Stating that every citizen has the right to protest in a democracy, Mr Singhvi, however, questioned the rationale behind Anna Hazare's fast unto death.
