The water level in river Yamuna in Delhi has come down marginally but the river is still flowing near the danger mark. According to the Flood Control Department, the river is flowing at 204.60 meters marginally below the danger mark at 204.83 meters. However the water level is likely to increase after over 96 lakh cusecs of water was released from the Hathnikund Barrage early on Saturday morning. The Flood Control Department has already issued a warning and people from the low lying areas have been advised to move to safer places. Several areas in Delhi experienced heavy over night showers as the south west monsoon gained momentum in northern parts of the country. So far the monsoon rainfall has been 21 percent below normal in the national capital this season. But with the city recording widespread rainfall in the past twenty four hours, the situation is likely to improve. Sporadic showers continued in some areas in the early morning hours. The Met Department predicts heavy rainfall to continue over the next couple of days. Although the rains have bought down the mercury significantly below the normal level, Delhites had to experience long traffic jams on Friday because of water logging in many areas.
