Delhi stalemate: Cong signals unconditional support to AAP; Not taking or extending support to Cong or BJP : AAP

The Congress has said that a number of senior leaders of Delhi are of the opinion that the party should extend unconditional support to Aam Aadmi Party, AAP to form a government in the national capital. Party General Secretary Shakeel Ahmed said this while talking to reporters in New Delhi yesterday.

AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal, however, said that his party will neither take nor extend support to either BJP or Congress to form the government. He said, AAP is ready for fresh elections in the city.

Meanwhile the BJP has asked its newly elected MLAs to be ready for fresh elections in Delhi. BJP's chief ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan told reporters that his party does not have enough numbers to form a stable government and is ready to fight the election once again. He was formally elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party at the first meeting of the newly elected MLAs in New Delhi yesterday.
Delhi BJP President Vijay Goel said, the party is ready to sit in the opposition and also ready to face re-election.

The Election Commission has notified results of the Assembly polls in Delhi, paving way for start of the formal process of government formation by the Lt Governor. As the election has thrown up a hung verdict, Lt Governor Najeeb Jung is now expected to formally explore all options to put in place a government. He is likely to call BJP which has emerged as the single largest party but fell short of majority in the 70-member House. If BJP declines such an offer, then Mr Jung may ask Aam Aadmi Party to form a government. In case AAP also refuses to take the offer, then the Lt Governor may be left with little option but to recommend central rule.
