Delhi releases Rs 2 crore for up gradation of night shelters

Delhi Government has released two crore rupees for up gradation of permanent night shelters for homeless in the national capital. This was stated by Delhi Urban Development Minister A K Walia after visiting various night shelters in the city to take stock of the situation. He said that the government is committed to provide adequate medical facilities to the occupants apart from basic amenities like sanitation, blankets and drinking water. The Minister instructed the officers to deploy mobile health check-up vans at each and every night shelter at least twice a week. He said that there will be no shortage of night shelters in the city and will also ensure to provide shelter to all the homeless people in the city so that they can protect themselves from the shivering cold. Mr. Walis said that temporaray night shelters have been increased to 86 which was only 24 last year. In addition, 64 permanent night shelters are functioning under the aegis of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).
