Delhi Police opposes bail plea of JNU Student Union leader Kanhaiya in HC

Delhi Police today opposed the bail plea of JNUStudent Union President Kanhaiya Kumar in High Court. The Court has directed Delhi Police to file before it tomorrow a status report of the investigation in the case. Delhi High Court was hearing the bail plea of Knahaiya Kumar today. He had approached the high court after the Supreme Court on Friday refused to hear his bail petition on the ground that it will set a dangerous precedent and had asked him to approach the high court.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court has agreed to hear today the plea of two JNU students seeking security before they surrender to police in a sedition case. Justices B D Ahmed and R K Gauba agreed to grant urgent hearing to the plea of Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, which said that there is a threat to their lives and sought police protection while surrendering. <br/><br/>They are among the five JNU students, whom the police have been looking for in connection with a sedition case. They surfaced on the University's campus on Sunday night. All the the five students maintained that they will not surrender but police can come and arrest them. They also said, they did not do anything wrong but were framed using a doctored video.<br/><br/>They had gone missing from the campus since 12th of this month after Kanhaiya was arrested in a sedition case. <br/>The High Court also agreed to hear another plea seeking directions to police to arrest all the five JNU students.
