Anna Hazare was today detained by Delhi Police in New Delhi preventing him from going ahead with his proposed hunger strike. Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat told AIR that Anna Hazare and his close associates were detained around 8 this morning.Anna Hazare was taken into custody from a residential area in Mayur Vihar before he was to proceed to the venue of his fast in J P Park where prohibitory orders are in place. Earlier, some senior police officials met Hazare in a bid to convince him not to undertake his fast. Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day today after witnessing several adjournments over the detention of civil society leader Anna Hazare by Delhi Police. The Lok Sabha was adjourned thrice before adjourning finally. The scene was not different in the Rajya Sabha, which witnessed two adjournments.As the Lok Sabha met for the day, the BJP-led opposition demanded suspension of the question hour to discuss Anna Hazare's detention. Amidst the din, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal said, that the government is prepared for a discussion on the issue and pleaded that the question hour be allowed. However, as the uproar continued, the Speaker, Mrs Meira Kumar adjourned the house for half an hour. When the House reassembled at noon, the opposition members again trooped into the well of the house demanding immediate discussion on the issue. In the continuing din, the Speaker adjourned the house for the day.In the Rajya Sabha, which met again at Noon, the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Arun Jaitley expressed anguish over the detention of Anna Hazare saying it is a serious issue facing the country. He charged the government with depriving the civil society of its right to peaceful protest. Mr Jaitley was stopped short by the agitating treasury bench members. As the pandemonium continued, the Deputy Chairman, K Rahman Khan adjourned the house for the day.
