Delhi Police today submitted a deatiled report to the Home Ministry over the incident at Lajpat Nagar in Delhi leading to the death of an Arunachal Pradesh student. The Minsitry had earlier, sought a report from the police over the incident.
The protest spearheaded by members from the student associations was called off following Delhi Police meeting with the protesters and assurance of swift action in the case.Protesters gathered at Lajpat Nagar market in South Delhi demanding justice to Nido Tania, a student from Arunachal Pradesh who was found dead on Thursday in his bedroom after he was allegedly beaten up by a group of 5 to 6 men on Wednesday. Nido's body was flown to Itanagar this morning. The detailed autopsy report is expected on Monday.
Officials at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences where the autopsy was conducted said physical injuries were found, but it cannot be concluded whether they were cause of his death. Our correspondent reports that police has already registered murder case at Lajpat Nagar police station and have detained three persons for interrogation in the case. A magisterial inquiry has also been ordered by the city government.
In another development, a delegation of northeast community met Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Dr Harsh Vardhan, who assured them of taking up the issue of their better security with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
