Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung has recommended dissolution of Delhi Assembly, to the President . Mr Jung sent a report on Delhi's political situation to the President. The report has paved the way for holding fresh polls in the national capital. The Union Cabinet is meeting this afternoon to consider the LG's recommendation on dissolution of the Assembly. Sources in the Lt Governor's office said, Mr Jung in his report to President Pranab Mukherjee mentioned that all three main political parties – the BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party – are unwilling to form government in Delhi. Delhi has been under President's Rule since February after the AAP government quit after ruling for 49 days.
After the recommendation of Lieutenant Governor for dissolution of the Delhi Assembly, Delhi BJP MLAs will be meeting in New Delhi this evening to discuss political situation. Yesterday, Delhi BJP president Satish Updhayay after meeting with Mr Jung, had declined to form government, saying the party does not have the required numbers.
Earlier, Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung held consultations with the representatives of BJP, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress on government formation yesterday during which the parties favoured fresh polls in the city.
BJP leader Srikant Sharma told AIR that his party will abide by the decision of the LG. Delhi BJP stressed that its stand on government formation has been clear since December last year that it would never engage in horse-trading to come to power in the national capital. In a statement, party said after the results of the assembly polls in December last year, the then Delhi BJP chief Harsh Vardhan had declined to form a government, saying they did not have the required numbers.
Congress leader Harun Yusuf said the party wants polls to be held along with Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir. Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Manish Sisodia also nsaid the party wants fresh polls in the city.
