Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung has invited Aam Aadmi Party Convener Arvind Kejriwal to discuss government formation after BJP refused the offer.
Kejriwal received a call from the LG office last evening soon after BJP's chief ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan declined the offer to form a government citing lack of majority in the 70-member House.
AAP leader and party spokesperson Manish Sisodia said that they have been given a time for tomorrow at 10:30 AM for meeting with the Lt Governor.
He said that the party is sticking to its stand of neither taking support from Congress or BJP nor support them. He said that senior party leaders would be meeting today to discuss the future course of action.
Earlier, Harsh Vardhan met the Lt Governor, who invited him to discuss government formation, but the BJP leader said his party would like to sit in the opposition in view of the lack of clear mandate by people of Delhi.
Meanwhile Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi has said that the issue of extending support to AAP is under consideration. His remarks came at a time when Delhi Lt Governor has started efforts to break the impasse on government-formation after the Assembly polls threw up a hung verdict.
Mr Gandhi held a meeting yesterday with the newly elected eight party MLAs of Delhi during which AICC general secretary Shakeel Ahmed and AICC Secretary Kuljit Singh Nagra were also present.
The Delhi polls threw up a fractured mandate with no party securing majority in the 70-member assembly and BJP emerging as the single largest party with 31 seats.
BJP's ally Akali Dal has one MLA. AAP has got 28 seats in the assembly followed by Congress' eight. JD-U has won one seat while Mundka seat has gone to an Independent.
