Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has directed all civic agencies in the national capital, and Delhi Police to identify all road stretches where footpaths need to be freed from hindrances. The LG has also directed these agencies to make these stretches user friendly in two weeks time. Mr Jung took these decisions today at a meeting at Raj Niwas to discuss the issue of rights of pedestrians, road safety and barrier free movement on the footpaths of Delhi.<br/><br/>An official release said, Shopkeepers and vendors have been advised to remove their belongings from the footpath to avoid any kind of penalties. It said, in 2014 a total of 742 pedestrians had died in road accidents in Delhi, which constitutes 45 per cent of total fatal accidents.
