The cable TV digitization including Direct to Home, DTH in four metros, has touched an overall 94 per cent as the deadline for switch-over ends today. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry in its release said that the digitization percentage in Delhi has gone up to 97 per cent. It was 86 per cent in Chennai followed by 85 per cent in Kolkata. Mumbai has already registered hundred per cent digitization.
Those who have not opted for set -top boxes face the threat of a TV blackout from Thursday. However, TV viewers in Chennai, who have not made the change got some relief with the Madras High Court granting extension of the deadline till 5th of November. The release said the number of DTH subscribers in all the 4 metro cities has crossed the 28 lakh mark.
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Uday Kumar Varma has said analogue signals in Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai will be switched off tomorrow but Chennai will not be in the list because of High Court order.
