Delhi heads for fresh polls as all three major parties decline to form govt

Delhi is heading for fresh elections, as all the three major political parties have expressed their inability to form the government. Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung held consultations with the representatives of BJP, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress on government formation yesterday during which the parties favoured fresh polls in the city. A release issued by LG office said, Mr Jung will be sending his report to the President Pranab Mukherjee on the outcome of talks held with the three parties.

BJP leader Srikant Sharma told AIR that his party will abide by the decision of the LG. Meanwhile, Delhi BJP stressed that its stand on government formation has been clear since December last year that it would never engage in horse-trading to come to power in the national capital. In a statement, party said after the results of the assembly polls in December last year, the then Delhi BJP chief Harsh Vardhan had declined to form a government, saying they did not have the required numbers.

Congress leader Harun Yusuf wants polls to be held along with Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir. Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Manish Sisodia said the party wants fresh polls in the city.

Delhi is currently under President's rule and assembly under suspended animation ever since the Arvind Kejriwal government resigned in February this year. The Supreme Court had given 11th of this month as the deadline to take a final call in the matter.
