Delhi Government has decided to set up 15 new hospitals in the national capital in the next few years to cater to the ever-increasing medical needs of the citizens. Currently, 38 Delhi Government hospitals have 7,510 beds and with the commissioning of new hospitals the number of beds will touch the mark of 10 thousand. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit which reviewed the performance of Health and Family Welfare department. It has been decided to set up new 200-bedded hospital in Burari, Hastsal, Sarita Vihar, Chhatarpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Madipur, Jwalapuri and Bamnauli. However, 100-bedded hospitals will come up in Siraspur, Keshavpuram and Jaunti while two 50 bedded hospitals have been planned at Molar Bund and Baprola in Delhi The officials said bed position in the city is much better than the national average. Delhi has 2.5 beds against a population of 1,000 whereas the national average is only 0.7. Health Minister Kiran Walia and Health Secretary Rajendra Kumar were also present in the meeting.
