Delhi govt steps up efforts to check dengue

With cases of dengue showing sharp increase in the national capital, Delhi Government has directed authorities to step up fogging, cleaning of drains regularly and removing of garbage from streets as part of efforts to fight the disease. At a review meeting, Health Minister A K Walia said, the spread of disease should be closely monitored and asked authorities to keep their preparedness at optimum level and ensure that hospital beds, testing kits, medicines and platelets are adequately available. He said, if the situation requires, provision of extra beds, the disaster management beds, can be utilised and exclusive wards can be earmarked for the patients. Mr.Walia directed health officials of the local bodies to step up ouse-to-house fogging. He said that the focus must shift from local fogging to domestic fogging as it would be much more effective at this stage.
With 29 more cases of dengue reported yesterday, the total number of cases in Delhi has risen to 169. A nine-year-old girl had died due to dengue last month.
